Build a Precision Sander
HERE IS A DEVICE I made some years ago, using wood from my shop scrap pile and an old plastic protractor that I hadn't used since the advent of drafting machines. The slot for the clamp screw allows the protractor stock guide to be set to almost touch the sandpaper at every setting, thus backing up the part being sanded. This feature is especially helpful when sanding thin and fragile parts-I still am finding new ways to use it. So if you want to make perfect wood joints, take a few hours to make this sander. Nice, tight joints are not only stronger and lighter-thick, gap-filling cyanoacrylate (CyA) glues are heavier than balsa-but they also give your model that craftsman's look, especially through translucent or transparent covering.
