Two Fledglings Earn Their Wings
They put the question to their mother first. We were two weeks into summer vacation, so it was probably a little overdue. Their mother knew just how to deal with the question. "Go ask your dad." Since I heard what she told the boys, I had a couple of moments to think about what to do. Reaching back into my youth, I recalled the summer I built my first gas-powered model airplane. It was a simple balsa profile model of a P-40. Powered by a well-used Babe Bee .049, the P-40 flew and crashed and flew and crashed, as I painfully mastered the art of Control Line flying.
