Sandpaper: The Most Important Tool
Has anyone told you that the most important tool in your shop is sandpaper? Unfortunately, it is true. I say unfortunately because I hate sanding, and over the years I have tried to find some miracle to eliminate it. I haven't found the miracle, but I have learned something about sandpaper and sanding techniques. What I will cover here pertains to hand sanding for models. This may not give you a Scale Masters finish, but it can make the job a lot easier.

TOOLS TO BUILD model airplanes range from simple to exotic. As a rule, though, most modelers start with a knife, some pins, glue, and sandpaper. As time goes by they add to their tool chest the items that enable them to build faster and better. (Costlow's Law says that you will never have all the right tools you need.) After building models for 40 years, I still am looking for that elusive, right tool. The items described here were bought, built, or stolen (the idea) from someone else. Hopefully, some of these may be of some help to you.
