Radio Control Soaring-2004/12
WHAT GLIDER WOULD be good as a
first airplane? This month I’ll give my
recommendations. All of the gliders I’ll list
have excellent instructions. I will examine
trade-offs between durability and
performance
RADIO CONTROL SOARING - 2004/07
THIS MONTH I have a review of a new instructional moldmaking
DVD and a technical note submitted by Gregory Ciurpita
on the pitch stability of gliders at low speed.
RADIO CONTROL SOARING - 2003/11
THIS MONTH I’LL give you some details
and flight impressions of three new gliders.
The Spinner is an inexpensive expanded
polypropylene (EPP)-foam discus-launch
glider (DLG) kit, the Hyper DL is an
inexpensive Almost Ready-to-Fly (ARF)
DLG, and the AVA is an ultralight ARF that
looks like Mark Drela’s Bubble Dancer
Radio Control Soaring - 2004/05
THIS COLUMN IS about electric glider winches and glider-winch
sources. For the newbies’ benefit, I’ll provide a basic description of a
glider winch. Experienced readers may want to skip ahead to where I
cover some winch-design issues and include a list of American gliderwinch
suppliers.
RADIO CONTROL SOARING - 2003/09
THIS MONTH I will cover two exciting topics in the otherwise
quiet world of Radio Control (RC) gliders. First, Phil Barnes has
released an instructional video (really a two-DVD set) detailing
exactly how he makes vacuum-bagged wings. Phil is one of the
top three professional wing makers in our country, and he tells all
of his production secrets in this video.
