The Engine Shop - 2004/05
IN RECENT WEEKS you readers have sent me some extremely
cogent and helpful input on topics I’ve mentioned in the last few
columns, such as the revolutionary new British-made RCV fourstroke
engines.

ONCE IN AWHILE when I receive a new
engine to test and report on to you, it arrives
accompanied by accessories. The Evolution
.36 I recently acquired from Hangar 9 did,
but those “accessories” turned out to be a
complete kit for an ARF CL model—including handle and lines.

O.S. ENGINES never runs out of new
ideas, such as the double-ball-bearing O.S.
.55 AX ABL. (The last three letters stand
for Advanced Bimetallic Liner, which is
an improvement on the “ABC” system.
The “ABL” design uses a double layer of
chrome and nickel electroplating in its
brass liner bore. This provides stronger
bonding between the plating and the sleeve
and greater durability in service.)
