How About a Windsock?
AT ONE of our RC club meetings, someone suggested that we needed a wind sock at our flying field. I immediately volunteered to look into the availability and price of an airport type sock. A check of some aircraft supply catalogs, revealed that not only were these type wind socks expensive, but larger than we needed. With these facts in mind, I had but one choice left. Make one. Presented in this article is the construction information for those clubs or individuals, who might want to make the wind sock. Materials: The sock frame is made of 3/16" dia. mild steel rod, which is available from local "True Value" or other hardware stores. Most of the metal used in the construction of the frame may be bought here. If you live near a welding shop, the same materials may be available there.
