R/C Reporter-E Multi-Function System Monitor @ $24.95 from Winged Shadow Systems, Box 432, Streamwood IL 60107; Tel.: (630) 837-6553; Web site: www.rcreporter.com.

Winged Shadow Systems announces the R/C Reporter-E, a new version of its popular R/C Reporter Multi-Function System Monitor. Functions of a Voltmeter, a Glitch Counter, and a Lost Plane Locator are combined into a single device.

While the original R/C Reporter measures the receiver battery voltage, the new "E" version measures the motor battery voltage. Either device plugs into the receiver like a servo.

However, the R/C Reporter-E features a voltmeter wire for connection to the positive battery input of the speed control of an electric-powered model. It has the ability to measure voltages as high as 70.0 and is perfect for systems using BEC-equipped speed controls. It is also great for any airplane using a voltage regulator.

The R/C Reporter-E retains all the functionality of the original. This includes a glitch counter to detect and help diagnose problems caused by interference, antenna placement, weak signals, and more. It also plays a melody (on command or when the transmitter signal is lost) to aid in finding a lost model. Functions are activated through simple transmitter commands and reported via a series of audible tones.

Having the footprint of a postage stamp (1 x 3/4 inch) and the weight of a nickel (5 grams), the R/C Reporter-E is easily mounted in almost any RC airplane, from backyard flyer to Giant Scale.

With the optional computer interface (sold separately), the default melody can be replaced with a downloaded ring-tone file. Choose from thousands of free ring tones available on the Web or compose your own. Now your airplane can have its own theme song!

The computer interface also allows customization of more than 20 parameters—including a user-programmable low-voltage alarm.

The Lil'SQuiRT Kit @ $24.50 + S&H from Stevens AeroModel, 4550 Beaumont Rd., Colorado Springs CO 80916; Tel.: (719) 393-0830; Web site: www.stevensaero.com.

The Lil'SQuiRT was derived from the SQuiRT 400 outdoor trainer. The Lil'SQuiRT features many of the design characteristics of the original, wrapped in a gymnasium-friendly package.

The removable wing rubber-bands hold the wing in place, making it less likely to be damaged when crashed. The landing gear is attached to a shock-absorbing mount to smooth over those less-than-perfect landings. The large undercambered wing encourages slow flight, so there is plenty of time for the new pilot to react!

Designed with the beginner in mind, the Lil'SQuiRT introduces the new hobbyist to working with balsa, covering, and control setup in a nonthreatening manner. Beginners will appreciate this affordable design, simple single-surface wing, low parts count, and self-twisting fuselage that builds straight every time.

The gentle-handling Lil'SQuiRT will not spin, and stalls are clean, predictable, and straight ahead. Slow speed, wide flight envelope, and forgiving handling keep the new pilot from trouble, and the low-mass, durable all-balsa construction makes encounters with the ground a non-event. Advanced pilots will enjoy relaxing low and close-in flying encounters with the Lil'SQuiRT.

This retro old-timer design echoes fond memories of childhood FF models. The high-quality, affordable RC system used in this model is easily transported to more advanced models, micro and park flyers, as piloting skills develop.

This laser-engineered kit includes full-size rolled plans, pushrods, landing gear, wheels, and motor mount.

The Lil'SQuiRT has a wingspan of 25.75 inches and a length of 17.50 inches. The wing area is 110.00 square inches, and the flying weight is 2.75–3.00 ounces, which puts the wing loading between 3.60 and 3.90 ounces per square foot.

Other items needed to finish the Lil'SQuiRT are two submicro, 5-gram servos; a 6-gram, four-channel receiver; a micro antenna; a 2-gram, 2-amp ESC; 130–250 mAh 2S Li-Poly battery; covering material; basic modeling tools; and cyanoacrylate glue.

Fourteen-channel servo-power Isolator @ $99.95 from I4C Products, 6924 E. 92nd, Tulsa OK 74133; Tel.: (918) 492-9435; Web site: www.i4cproducts.com.

The Isolator is primarily used by 1/4-scale or larger airplanes and helicopters in which large-capacity batteries, long leads, and a high quantity of servos are employed.

The Isolator eliminates noises caused by servo motors and amplified by long leads, plus it eliminates servo power spikes to the receiver. This is done by using a two-battery system, one for the receiver and one (or more) for the servos.

Removing the servos, long leads, and power draw/noise from the receiver means that the receiver works more efficiently, and in doing so will avert low-voltage receiver spikes which can make receiver fail-safe programming mistakenly kick in or receiver pc boards turn off.

In addition, the Isolator improves receiver range by removing the noisy servo power wires from running next to the signal wire. One of its primary assets is that it allows for continued flight even if the receiver or servo battery soft shorts (drops a cell).

Heavy-duty buss bars will work with Ni-Cd, NiMH, or Lithium batteries. Dual 22-gauge servo battery ports reduce battery connector pin load by 50%.

The Isolator works with all regulators, backups, and accessories such as smoke systems, etc. Also check out the new upgrades for the JR 10-channel Isolator.

ParkZone Typhoon ready-to-run electric 3-D park flyer @ $219.99 + S&H from Horizon Hobby, 4105 Fieldstone Rd., Champaign IL 61822; Tel.: (217) 352-1913; Web site: www.horizonhobby.com.

The Typhoon 3D is breaking new ground by packing high-quality components for 3-D flight into one package. It's easy 3-D fun for the experienced park flyer enthusiast!

This model's primary structural material is Z-Foam; a revolutionary hybrid foam material that is stronger and lighter than most foam materials. The wing has a symmetrical airfoil for advanced aerobatic maneuvers such as hovers, Harriers, Torque Rolls, and Waterfalls, all with the standard NiMH battery.

The Typhoon spans 39.5 inches (1,000 mm) and its overall length is 34 inches (862 mm). The flying weight is 26 ounces (740 g) with the rechargeable nine-cell, 10.8-volt, 1000 mAh NiMH battery pack. The included charger is a 1.8-amp variable-rate DC type with peak detect that charges five- to 10-cell NiMH and Ni-Cd batteries.

The included motor is a ParkZone BL400-15T brushless type mounted in an 8:1 gearbox. The radio is a four-channel FM on 72 MHz with four microservos and universal connectors. The speed control is a ParkZone brushless 20-amp ESC with BEC.

Also included are two propellers: one for speed — 12 x 8.75 — and one for power — 13.5 x 7. The approximate flying durations are eight to 10 minutes on the stock pack and 15–18 minutes on a 2100 mAh Li-Poly.

Nothing else is needed to get this model flying. Charge the battery while you assemble the model, and in 40 minutes, when the battery is finished, you're ready to fly. Once in the air, you can choose between "low" or "high" elevator and aileron rates with a flip of the transmitter switch.

Experienced model builders will appreciate the Typhoon 3D's removable receiver, separate brushless ESC, and servos that can be used in other park flyers. That includes delta-wing applications, thanks to selectable control mixing in the transmitter. Pilots can also adjust the ESC auto cutoff to work with three-cell Li-Poly battery packs.
