Wedgie @ $51.95 + $6 S&H from MM Glider Tech, Box 39098, Downey CA 90239; Tel.: (562) 927-2583; E-mail: mmglidert@keyway.net; Web site: www.mmglidertech.com.

MM Glidertech’s Wedgie, designed by Dave Wenzlick, brings a new era of hot-rod performance to 400-size flying wings, yet it was cleverly designed to reuse most or all system components from previous aircraft.

The result is a turbocharged increase in flight performance without buying any new equipment.

Using the stock six-volt Speed 400 motor, controller, and radio from any previous aircraft, the 34-inch-span Wedgie will exceed 90 mph in dives, 60 mph level, and perform blistering high-speed aerobatics, Axial Rolls, and full outside maneuvers.

The Wedgie uses a modified MH45 airfoil, increased sweep, and has a 16-ounce flying weight. The unique configuration lets the flier “hot-swap” batteries in 10 seconds without any disassembly or hatch removal.

The kit includes CAD (computer-aided drafting) blueprints, two-pound EPS white foam cores, precut “edge-wedgie” tip fins, and precut motor mount. Structural fiber tape and colored covering tape are not included.

The model is available through your local hobby shops or mail-order direct from MM Glider Tech.

Fibertech Aviation’s new 36%-scale Edge 540 is designed specifically for the many 100cc engines on the market. The Edge has proven to be one of the most popular aerobatic airplanes in use today; its capabilities are astounding when set up for 3-D maneuvers.

The kit features a white, gel-coated, epoxy-fiberglass, scale fuselage with fiberglass cowl and wheel pants, ready to paint. The wings are foam, balsa-sheeted, with airfoil shaped tail surfaces.

All control surfaces are cut out and capped, requiring only shaping the leading edge to suit control movement. Sleeves for wing and stabilizer tube are installed. Wings and horizontal stabilizers are removable.

Carbon-fiber reinforcement is used in high-stress areas for added strength. A clear canopy, aluminum tube wing spar, and formed landing gear are included. A hardware kit is not included, but one is available from Fibertech.

Aircraft specifications: wingspan, 104 inches; wing area, approximately 1,950 square inches; fuselage length, 93 inches; weight, 26-28 pounds; recommended engine size, 100-120cc.

R/C Calendar 2002 @ $15 + $2.50 S&H from Aces Video, 22 W. "F" Ave., Kalamazoo MI 49004.

This calendar includes photos of Radio Control airplanes from Toledo, Scale Masters, the Nationals, and the Tournament of Champions.

It's a good year to look back on for this year.

Nelson Intelligent Glow Drivers from Nelson Hobby Specialties, 2900 S.W. Cornelius Pass Rd. Unit 762, Hillsboro OR 97123; Toll free: (877) 263-5766; Fax: (503) 645-1492.

In addition to Nelson Hobby's single Intelligent Glow Driver (IGD), there is now a two-cylinder version.

What makes the IGD unique is that it has a microprocessor that senses glow-plug temperature. When the engine is throttled down, the glow plug cools and the engine can quit.

At a predetermined glow-plug temperature setting, the IGD turns on a 1.2-volt Ni-Cd battery. When the glow plug has been heated sufficiently, the IGD turns off the battery, thus increasing the life of the battery. The twin IGD controls each glow plug independently.

Also, as part of the microprocessor, there is a low-voltage indicator for the glow plug and receiver battery. Two glow-plug attach units are provided. The customer has to purchase a Wye harness and a single 1.2-volt Ni-Cd battery.

The Nelson single IGD retails for $49.95. The Nelson twin IGD retails for $89.95. They are available at your hobby dealer or order direct.

Quantum 6 six-channel submicroreceiver from FMA Direct, 9607 Dr. Perry Rd. Unit 109, Ijamsville MD 21754; Tel.: (800) 343-2934; E-mail: sales@fmadirect.com; Web site: www.fmadirect.com.

The new Quantum 6 six-channel FM dual-conversion submicroreceiver represents the fifth generation in a history of high-quality Radio Control receivers designed by FMA, Inc.

The Quantum 6 receiver is designed with extremely narrow band pass and full-range capabilities. Because it is a dual-conversion, interference rejection on all fronts is unsurpassed.

You can fly the Quantum 6 in anything from park or indoor models to sport models, helicopters, and IMAA (International Miniature Aircraft Association)-legal aircraft with complete confidence, regardless of how many pilots are in the air.

Available in two basic models—Futaba type and JR type to accommodate FM shift—the Quantum 6 supports positive or negative FM modulation.

Heavy-duty SMT construction on a single, fiberglass epoxy PC board along with various other circuit improvements make this latest design the most reliable ever produced by FMA.
