Gee Bee E
Anthony Kameen (11045 Silver Run, Moreno Valley CA 92557) built his Gee Bee E from redrawn plans.
"I received a lot of help from Henry Haffke and his book [Gee Bee—The Real Story of the Granville Brothers and Their Marvelous Airplanes] on the entire Gee Bee line," he wrote.
Construction is conventional balsa and light plywood. Power is supplied by an O.S. .52 Surpass four-stroke engine with an Airtronics RD8000 radio on the standard four channels.
This model spans 60 inches and is finished with Coverite. Paint is blue and yellow Rust-Oleum, as described in Henry's book. Anthony made the decals on his computer. The clear coat is Klass Kote with a glossy catalyst.
"I like the look of the airplane and felt it needed to be modeled as a tribute to the Granvilles and all they brought to the field of sport aviation during those days," wrote Anthony.
Warbird
Ray Terry (12801 Spring Run Rd., Midlothian VA 23112; E-mail: rterry7@verizon.net) built this electric-powered aerobatic model he calls "Warbird." The basic design is an extrapolation of the plans for the Projectile by the late Dave Robelen.
This model spans 54 inches and weighs 44 ounces ready to fly. The wings have NACA 2415 airfoils and 1° of positive incidence. The radio gear is Hitec, and the covering is Microlite. Ray used a .10-size Superlite Retract Set of landing gear from Hobby Lobby.
"The plane is capable of endless vertical rolls with a Hacker A30-8XL turning an 11 x 7E APC propeller, a 3700 mAh 25C Li-Poly battery, and a Phoenix 45 ESC," wrote Ray. "A Koolflight BEC powers the plane's five servos."
WACO
Dan Eubanks (30 Solebury Mt. Rd., New Hope PA 18938; E-mail: dse15@comcast.net) constructed this 1/6-scale WACO YMF-3 from an old Pilco kit.
The 60-inch-span model weighs 8 pounds with an O.S. Surpass engine turning a 15 x 8 APC propeller. The radio is a Futaba T6AX-S.
"The model will look familiar to anyone who was privileged enough to see the late Jimmy Franklin fly his modified WACO at an airshow," wrote Dan.
Covering is Black Baron Coverite with spray LustreKote and hand-painted trim. The "Coke" on the fuselage is cut from a tracing on white MonoKote.
SuperFly
Matt Crooks (mmc205@hotmail.com) built this SuperFly from a SuperFly RC kit, which came with a brushless motor and all the necessary hardware.
The model weighs 13 ounces with a three-cell, 1300 mAh Li-Poly battery. The wingspan is 27 inches, and the length is 22 inches. Matt wrote:
"It was a breeze to put together. You only need a hobby knife, a hot glue gun, and paint. It's a great airplane to fly because you can fly it fast like a normal delta wing on three cells, or do some light 3-D on two cells."

Piper J-3
Jim Kitchen (1377 Geneva Ave., Yuba City CA 95991; E-mail: jkitchen@syix.com) built this Wings Maker Piper J-3 Cub EP ARF for his introduction to electric-powered flight. Wings Maker is part of AirBorne Models, which is part of World Models.
The Cub features balsa-and-plywood construction, has a 48.5-inch wingspan, and weighs 25 ounces. Jim's model came with a geared Speed 400 motor and folding propeller, and it is designed for a 1000 mAh, 8.4-volt NiMH battery.
Nieuport 28 Fighter
Carl Schurenberg (7678 Oceola Dr., West Chester OH 45069; E-mail: carlschur@aol.com) constructed his 1/4-scale model from a Balsa USA kit.
Power is provided by a Zenoah G-23 engine, and radio control is by Futaba. The model is covered with Solartex. The Nieuport spans 80 inches and has an overall length of 61 inches.
"This model is a replica of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker's White 12, which he flew with the 94th Aero squadron," wrote Carl.
He made several additions to this kit, including hand-painted camouflage, liberty bond decals, inspections panels, a spring-loaded axle, a venturi tube, "Type 28" decals on interplane struts, and flying and landing wires.
"I enjoyed building this kit," wrote Carl. "But I would certainly purchase an airbrush, if I were to do it again."
Floating Kadet
Elmer Hill (1615 Upper Saint Clair Dr., Pittsburgh PA 15241) rekitted this Sig Kadet Senior to convert it from a high-wing model to a low-wing floatplane.
Charles Lisica constructed and finished the model, and Elmer flew it at Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania.
"It flies beautifully and has about six flights at the lake," wrote Elmer.
The 15-pound Kadet has an 80-inch wingspan with a single large float. An ASP .108 engine is used with a seven-channel FM receiver and five servos.
