170 MODEL AVIATION
PALOUSE REGION R/C Flyers, located
in eastern Washington State and northern
Idaho, are continuing a longstanding
tradition of educating youngsters in an
area school.
“Each year the Palouse Region R/C
Flyers put on a demonstration for the
kindergarten class in Potlatch, Idaho. The
teacher has requested us because she is
teaching the children about different
modes of transportation—aircraft being
one of the modes of transportation.
“We bring models and show them how
the controls work and how airplanes fly.
Our safety officer, Mel Colvin, has been
the key person in this endeavor.
“Dave Walker is our club president,
Colleen Bumgarner is our secretary and
treasurer, and Bruce Bumgarner is our
club’s vice president.
“The photos were taken by me, Joe
Bolden. I have been assisting with this
endeavor for four years.
“The kindergarten class program was
started by Al Culver, an AMA associate
vice president in District XI in 1997.”
This is another example of how a club
can provide a community service and at
the same time promote the club and model
aviation.
Good work, people. Thanks to Joe
Bolden for this report and the photos.
Until next time.
