The Central Carolina RC Modelers held
its 18th Annual Open House on May 24,
2009. The purpose of this event is to
showcase our hobby and expose the public
to the world of model aviation.
This year we battled off-and-on rain
showers throughout the day. Despite that,
we managed to entertain approximately 400
spectators. This year’s menu featured fresh
cooked barbecue, fries, and hush puppies.
During breaks in the weather, we held
open flying and several demonstrations.
Among them were helicopter flights by
Robbie Wood, model rocketry by Jay
Marsh, and aerobatic demonstrations by
Josh Matthews and Tristan Galimore.
Dustin Garris wowed the crowd with
flights of club president Carl Mickey’s jetpowered
Boomerang.
Always a hit with the kids was Robert
Underwood flying Jack King’s Flying King
for the candy drop.
Thanks to our cosponsor K/C Hobby in
Archdale, North Carolina, we were able to
give away many prizes to spectators and
pilots.
Hopefully next year the weather will
cooperate.

The RC Modelers of Baltimore (RCMB)
were greeted by blue skies and gentle
breezes at the Kirk Memorial RC Scale Fly-
In on June 13, 2009. Hosted by the Radio
Control Modelers of Baltimore, the scale
fly-in was held at RCMB’s Kirk Field in
scenic Parkton, Maryland.
Seventeen pilots from seven different
District IV clubs with 25 scale airplanes
enjoyed absolutely perfect flying conditions,
a welcome surprise after weeks of rain, rain,
and more rain.
Registered pilots were provided a free
lunch, raffle door prizes, and voted to give
awards to what they considered to be the
best Scale models in six civilian and military
categories.
RCMB members pitched in together to
ensure a fun day for pilots and spectators
alike. Overall, this AMA sanctioned
inaugural event was considered to be a big
success.
