156 MODEL AVIATION
TRAVELING to represent the Academy is
sometimes impaired by Mother Nature. In
February, we traveled through a late winter
snow storm in order to reach an event in
Charleston, West Virginia. In April, we
traveled to Lausanne, Switzerland, for the
FAI meetings.
Unfortunately, the visit was extended
several days by volcanic dust from the
volcano eruption in Iceland. Although
Switzerland is a beautiful country, the area
around the Zurich airport is not part of what I
would recommend for a European vacation.
Because of this long, unscheduled stay,
District III was not represented at the recent
AMA Council meeting.
Public relations are desirable for any
progressive model airplane
club. Chris Brown and the
Seneca Highlands Aero
Radio Kontrol Society
(SHARKS) have created an
extremely worthwhile
brochure with positive
information about the club.
Highlights include the
basics of who, what, where,
and when in relationship
with the club.
If you are interested in
creating a similar
publication for your club,
why not contact Chris
Brown at chrisabrown@
yahoo.com for a sample brochure and some
insight into the publication.
The Black Sheep Squadron of Wyoming,
Pennsylvania, is a step ahead of most clubs.
It has designated one specific person in
charge of press relations. Steve Kurimchak
is that person.
Steve frequently provides pictures with
specific descriptions for publication in this
column. Additional information about the
Black Sheep Squadron is located on the club
Web site, www.blacksheepsquadronpa.info.
The accompanying pictures are examples of
Steve Kurimchak’s effort.
WINGS instruction program coordinator
Keith Hazleton awards Al Arnal his wings for
advanced helicopter flying skills. Al worked
diligently to earn all three levels of
certification.
Bill Coffay returns to the tent after a flight in
the snow. The Black Sheep fly every month
in various weather conditions.
Al Arnal, the club’s secretary/treasurer,
presents local hobby shop owner Walter
Letanski with a plaque in recognition of
support of the club’s fundraising efforts for
charity.
If you would like your club to be
recognized, follow the Black Sheep example
and send the digital pictures and a write-up
to Bob Brown at the e-mail address in the
masthead on this page.
This year the Lebanon Flea Market was
successful by every account. A special
thanks is offered to all those involved for
their continuous efforts over numerous
years. The event is the largest of its type in
the Northeast.
Worthwhile purchases were made and
Chris Brown provided the following pictures
that depict some of the Lebanon activities.
Which one should I buy?
Dave Evans sells some engines.
How about a helicopter?
