The Wenatchee Red Apple Flyers have a
new field in Wenatchee, Washington.
THE RED APPLE Flyers’ new flying site
is the result of many years of negotiating
with Waste Managment Corp (WMC) and a
property trade. WMC gave the club money
each year for five years to hold the property.
Then WMC paid for all of the development,
building, etc. The building has a full
commercial kitchen, meeting rooms, and
restroooms with showers.
There are 25 full-service RV hookups
and I was told site #1 was reserved for me!
The Kitsap Aircraft Radio Control Society
(ARCS) is a very active club in northwest
Washington. Verlyn Grange, Kitsap ARCS
representative, sent me the following
pictures and article.
“I would like to take this opportunity to
send out a short report of a flying activity
that was held in Port Orchard, Washington,
a few months back. The small but successful
event was the result of a conversation
between two of Kitsap ARCS members.
Michael Miller and I (Verlyn Grange) had
been working on a biplane model together
and Mike commented that, ‘with all the
interest developing in biplanes in the club
that the club should hold a biplane fun-fly.’
“I commented there is quite some interest
in triplanes also and so it should be a
multiwing event.
“Michael approached the club president
and a date was set in mid-September for this
event to take place at Little Field in Port
Orchard.
“In short, for a trial event of this nature
by a single club and not having advertised to
any other clubs in the area, there was a total
of 11 pilots and 15 aircraft. Aircraft ranged
in size from a very small Wright Flyer, to a
large-scale Focker Triplane. Electrics and
glow-powered aircraft were both represented
as well.
“Plaques were awarded for Pilots’
Choice and Best Flight. Pilots also were
treated to a club-sponsored burger/hot dog
barbecue. All who attended commented how
well they liked this event!
“We want to thank the club members,
club members wives, and one very special
guest who provided the volunteer work that
it took to make this event a great success.
“The Kitsap ARCS is looking forward to
this coming May when we hope to host a
district-wide multiwing competition.”
