WITH SPRING in full swing, a new
flying season is upon us.
I just came back from attending the
Weak Signals Toledo R/C Expo and the
attendance seemed to be pretty good.
There were lots of things to look at and
purchase, and everyone seemed to be
doing just that.
I attended an Electronic Technology
Committee meeting held on Sunday during
the show. We had plenty to discuss, and 2.4
GHz spread spectrum was the hot topic.
While you may not read much about
these kinds of meetings, be assured that
your AMA is working to protect our
freedom to fly our models. This includes
electronics issues,
Homeland Security
issues, and even FAA
and FCC concerns.
The Lake City, South
Carolina Fly-In was
held April 11, 2009. I
drove up to Lake City
to visit with the club
members of the Lake
City Flying Tigers.
We had some
overnight rains, but
the day dawned with
blue skies and some
wind.
Although this
event was the day
before Easter, roughly
50 pilots were registered for the fly-in.
The Flying Tigers have a great flying
site. It is a full-scale grass runway and
the flightline sets right in the middle of
approximately 2,000 feet of runway.
The club has also made a helipad,
complete with a covered pit area, on
the back side of the field so the
helicopter
pilots have
their own spot
to fly! It is a
really nice
setup and
everyone at the
field makes
you feel very
welcome.
The club
has an event in
the fall as well,
and I hope to
make it back
for that.
